Kirchberg is a district of the Schönberg market in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau . Until 1978 it formed an independent municipality.

location

The village of Kirchberg with the church of St. John the Baptist, which can be seen from afar, is about two kilometers south of Schönberg.

history

In 1376 the Wenger brothers sold a property in Chirchberg to the Landgrave von Leuchtenberg . In 1395 there are two farms and a fiefdom listed in the Halser Salbuch . In the map of Philipp Apian from 1568 the place is marked as N. Kirchperg .

Since 1818 Kirchberg formed its own community. The village of Kirchberg itself had eight houses in addition to the church in 1855. The Kirchberg volunteer fire department was founded in 1885. On May 1, 1978, the municipality of Kirchberg came to market Schönberg as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

Attractions

The late Gothic church, a branch church of the parish of Schönberg, was consecrated before 1472. The foundation walls are of Romanesque origin. The Gothic wall painting was uncovered during the restoration in 1966/67 and partially preserved. The three wooden figures in the niches of the baroque altar, namely Mary with the child and on their sides St. John the Baptist and St. John the Evangelist, also date from this period.
