The church Apensen is the church building of the Evangelical Lutheran parish Apensen in Kirchenkreis Buxtehude ( Sprengel Stade ).

history

The present church stands on the foundation of numerous older churches and chapels; the first church is believed to be around 800 here. The first written mention of a church in Apensen was in 1352.

The previous church was badly damaged in a fire in 1740, and all church registers fell victim to this fire. The previous church was a simple, single-nave, rectangular building, the masonry of which was mostly made of field stone . The wooden tower, built in 1752, was located west of the nave . The chairs stood on the bare ground, only the aisle was paved.

In 1909 the previous church was demolished because it was in disrepair . According to the plans of the Hanoverian architect Eduard Wendebourg , a new building was built between 1909 and 1910.

This church celebrated its 100th anniversary in March 2010.

Furnishing

The altar dates from 1910. Above it is a copy of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper . On the sides there are gabled images depicting symbols of the Lord's Supper . On the gables to the left of the crucified Jesus is the apostle John and to the right Mary . The mosaic window below shows the resurrection of Jesus Christ .

The pulpit and baptismal font come from the old church . Both were created around 1640.

organ

The organ by Philipp Furtwängler was installed in 1853 on the west gallery of the previous building. It has 18 registers , two manuals and a pedal . In 1910 it was built into the new church by Furtwängler. The sound and appearance of the organ have changed significantly over the years as a result of multiple modifications.

2014–2015 it was extensively restored by Rowan West .
