Church in Eixen

The Eixen Church is a 13th century village church in the Western Pomeranian community of Eixen .

history

The church was built after the establishment of the village of Eixen in 1248. It was probably dedicated to St. George . The belfry was built in 1888.

After a closure for static reasons, the church was completely renovated in 1992/93.

Exterior

The church was built from field stone . It has an ornamental gable on the east side. A former death gate is bricked up today.

On the north side there is an attached sacristy with a domed vault.

Furnishing

The painting of the window groups, the shield arches, the ceiling tile and the consecration crosses date from the 13th century. On the east side there are two figures from the beginning of the 14th century (Christophorus and a saint).

The late Gothic winged altar with carved figures of saints and panel paintings was made in the workshop of Claus Berg in 1535/40 and was the main altar of the church. After the Reformation , it was supplemented by a pedestal (with depictions of the kings adoring the baby Jesus, the Lord's Supper and Jesus praying before his condemnation). In the 17th century, figures (Moses, the crucified, John the Baptist) were placed on top. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was faded in with the triptych (Resurrection, Crucifixion and Ascension of Christ) that can be seen today in the east as an altar and was not rediscovered until 1856. Since then he has stood on the south side of the church.

To the right of the altar is the patron s box of a Kavelsdorf patron saint of the church from the 18th century. To the left of the altar is an incomplete confessional from the 17th century, painted with depictions of the apostles.

The baroque pulpit with carved representations of angel heads, the evangelist John and the risen Christ was made in 1744 by Michael Müller from Stralsund .
