Garz Church (Usedom)
The Garz Church is a Gothic church building from the 13th century in the municipality of Garz on Usedom in Western Pomerania . In the church there is an exhibition on the history of the place and the war cemetery on the Golm .
History and affiliation
The small, tile-roofed building was probably built in the 13th century from unevenly layered field stones and bricks . A wooden roof turret was removed in the 19th century because it was in disrepair.
The Protestant parish has been part of the Pasewalk provost in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany since 2012 . Before that she belonged to the Greifswald parish of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church .
architecture
The gable , the west wall and the building edges have corner pinnacles . The windows and portal walls were made of brick. The windows were changed several times, at the end of the 19th century they were enlarged and framed with round arches. On the north facade, two windows were walled up with field stones or bricks. There is also a small priest's gate, closed with stones . Windows were also bricked up on the south facade. The east gable has six white plastered pointed arch panels with a circular panel above. Below there are several walled up windows that were closed with field stones and bricks. On the west gable there is a small wooden door above the central plaster panel. In earlier times the fishermen from Garz could dry their nets there for a small fee . The gable roof is covered with red beaver tail tiles.
Interior
The interior is designed with a flat ceiling and houses a sacrament niche with a wooden door from the 16th century on the east wall . The winter church is located under a gallery .
The altar with enclosure, the pulpit with adjoining preacher's stalls and the west gallery were made in 1780. The two votive ships are copies of the originals from 1770 and 1825, which are in the museum in Wolgast . The organ was made in 1856 by the Kaltschmidt company from Stettin, the prospectus is in the form of the neo-renaissance .
Peal
The bell of the church consists of a bell made in 1934 by Franz Schilling from Apolda and another bell that reminds of the dead in Swinoujscie . They are hung in a free-standing belfry from 1854.
