It wasplannedby Andreas Meck , built from 2015 to 2018 and bears the patronage of the blessed Jesuit Rupert Mayer .

history

Poing's historic parish church of St. Michael , in which services continue to be held, is located in the old town center and offers space for 220 visitors. Due to the rapid development of "Neu-Poing", the population of the place doubled within a decade and a half. The new building in the new town center takes this into account.

The completion of the Rupert Mayer Church in 2018 was delayed by eight months in October 2017 due to the insolvency of the company that was responsible for the special tiles on the facade. The new church for 14.6 million euros offers 350 seats. The consecration of the church by Cardinal Reinhard Marx took place on June 10th.

The architect was Andreas Meck (1959–2019). The Cologne sculptor Ulrich Rückriem and his assistant Alfred Karner took on the design of the liturgical places . Carola Heine created a sculpture of the Mother of God. A painting by the painter Jerry Zeniuk hangs in the entrance area.

The “ski jump of God”, as the church is called due to its striking shape, is imitated from a crystal. The facade is covered with 15,000 white, three-dimensional tiles that let the building shine in the sun. A golden cross with a weathercock is attached to the 34 meter high top . The building is supported by a steel cross that is not visible from the inside. A staircase leads to a corridor between the two shells of the church and further to a balcony on the roof.

The interior of the church is kept simple. Decorations are largely avoided. A base made of Nagelfluh forms the basis of the high room, with a cross hanging from the ceiling. The walls are whitewashed. Altar, ambo, tabernacle and baptismal font are made of Westphalian Anröchter stone , which contains fossils. The oak pews are arranged around the altar. The baptismal font is by a large window from which you can see a small lake and the tower of the Protestant church. There is another window above the altar at a height of 30 meters.

In February 2019, the building received the Bavarian State Association of the Association of German Architects (BDA) in the “Special Buildings” category.

Bells

The four bells of the church were cast by the Eifel bell foundry . The largest bell is dedicated to the church patron Rupert Mayer and shows a portrait of Rupert Mayer and the inscription “I am not silent!”. The other bells are dedicated to: the Holy Family , Saint Edith Stein and Blessed Adolph Kolping . The strike tone sequence is as 1 - b 1 - des 2 - es 2 .
