history
In 1978 the prelate and pastor of the Boniface parish Jan Kozak in Zgorzelec asked for permission to build a new church. The architects Wojciech Kurowski and Alina Niedźwiedzka-Kurowska and the engineers Jan Niedźwiedzki and Wojciech Marszałk were commissioned to build the building. The laying of the foundation stone took place on October 26, 1981 in the presence of the Archbishop of Wroclaw Henryk Roman Gulbinowicz . Archbishop Gulbinowicz was able to inaugurate the lower church on November 9, 1983. After being separated from the parish of St. Boniface, the independent parish of St. Josef was founded in 1990. At the turn of the millennium, the choir of the upper church was completed. On May 1st, 2000 the Bishop of Legnica Tadeusz Rybak consecrated the upper church.
The upper church can accommodate up to 800 people. The community has around 9,000 believers. Up to seven Holy Masses are therefore held in the church on Sunday.
