history

Until 1800

A manor Heinricus de Zuzitc is mentioned in a document around 1287. The masonry of the basement of the tower suggests a church building from the 11th century . During this time, the first German fortified farmers settled the country. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that it could be a fortified church on a small hill. Around 1500 a parish church (Archidiakonat Dompropstei, sedes Oschatz / Mn) is listed. In the years 1595 to 1596 several repairs were carried out under the master builder Nicolaus Wagner. A new altar was also purchased around 1596.

In 1796 some changes were made again. The entrance portal was moved from the south side to the tower side. The church stalls were also renewed. The organ was also revised . The ring consisted of three bronze bells. The large bell dates from 1516 while the two smaller ones were acquired a little later.

From 1800

In 1869 the church was restored and the Gothic style choir was extended. The four-sided, three-sided choir on the east side is reinforced by four buttresses decorated with relief stones. The interior of the nave with a flat-roofed gallery hall has three high arched windows on both sides. It is kept simple and unadorned in white and light gray tones, while the fixtures are set off in light blue tones. The church has a one-story gallery on both sides, including the organ gallery. The small organ is from 1869 and was made by Gottlob Heinrich Nagel from Großenhain . In 1894, the two side altar windows in the chancel were given colored lead-glazed windows. These windows, made in the Art Nouveau style, each show a medallion with portraits of Moses and Jesus Christ . The altarpiece depicts the temptation of Christ before his capture . It was moved to the north wall of the choir in 1970. During renovation work it was found that there is a painted wooden ceiling from the Renaissance period under the plastered ceiling . In the 1980s, with the help of the community and the entire village, the church was renewed as needed. Around 1985 the exterior plaster was renewed. After 1990 a winter church was set up in the church under the organ gallery. The Terpitz Church has been part of the Borna Evangelical-Lutheran parish since 2011 .
