Endre Church
The Church of Endre ( Swedish Endre kyrka ) is a country church on the Swedish island of Gotland . It is the parish church of the parish (swed. Församling ) Endre and belongs to the diocese of Visby .
location
The church is 11 km east of Visby and 12 km north of Roma .
Church building
The oldest part of today's church is the tower from the 12th century, which still comes from the previous church. In the 13th and 14th centuries the church got its present appearance when the choir was built and the nave was built around 1300 . This surrounds the old tower on three sides, with the ground floor and the nave forming part of the church space. Wall paintings by the Passion Master from the middle of the 15th century show the life of Jesus, prophets and geometric patterns.
Surname
The name Endre is first mentioned as Endrar in a copy from the 14th century.
