Half-timbered house at Kirchgasse 22 in Eppingen

The house at Kirchgasse 22 in Eppingen , a town in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a half-timbered house in Kraichgau that was built around 1450 . The building is protected as a cultural monument.

Building description

The house once stood close between two houses, only separated from them by a moat . The neighboring house on the right was demolished after 1945. The very steep roof protrudes far above the gable .

The ground floor of this multi- storey house consists of exposed stone masonry . The first half-timbered floor meets a thick, older wall on the left side of the eaves (as seen from the street). The second half-timbered floor sits on this wall and protrudes towards the street. A three-story gable rises flush above it. In front of this is a floating gable , which is not visible at first glance , also known as an open space . The frames that support the floating gable are locked with lugs . As was customary at that time, the struts of the two floors form the Swabian Man .

The floor plan of the house is divided into three horizontal strips, and the walls of all floors are still one above the other. There are still Gothic carvings in the beams of a plank ceiling .
