Church Proseminar Naumburg (Saale)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ecclesiastical Proseminar Naumburg (Saale) was one of the pre-theological training institutions in church sponsorship at which an Abitur could be taken in the GDR , which gave access to the study of theology or catechetics at the Catechetical Oberseminar Naumburg (Saale) , to the study of theology in theology Seminar Leipzig and at the Sprachenkonvikt in Berlin or to study church music at one of the church music training centers of the Evangelical Church of the GDR. This Abitur was not recognized as such by the state, so that studying at a state college or university in the GDR with a Naumburg degree was not possible.

The Church Proseminar was known for imparting comprehensive general education according to a curriculum that was independent of state requirements. This is why the opportunity to train at this institute was not only used by young people who specifically wanted to work in church service, but also by other church-influenced young people who were denied access to the Extended High School (EOS) and thus to the state-recognized Abitur had been.

history

The Ecclesiastical Proseminar was opened in Naumburg on April 16, 1952 after a resolution by the church leadership of the Church Province of Saxony . Initially, it was organizationally linked to the Naumburg Catechetical Seminar in order to structure the pre-training course in line with theology. The second rector of the institute (after Ernst Kähler ), the classical philologist Gerhard Steinkopf , had designed the educational program in the run-up to the foundation based on the guidelines for secondary schools in Prussia from 1925. In addition to the focus on Latin and Greek (with six hours per week each), German, mathematics, history and natural science subjects were also taught. In order for the classes in the introductory seminar was an alternative to the Marxist-Leninist oriented education system of the GDR . This training with a humanistic-high school profile lasted three years. The Proseminaristen were international standard housed in the house Charlotte Street 1, in the neighboring house Bürgergartenstraße 34 and the fourth in the house Lepsius Street After a retrospective estimate have visited about 700 students this institution. After the German reunification , the church proseminar was dissolved because the need for this training no longer existed and the churches could no longer raise the necessary funds. The last school year was taken over by the Pforta State School in 1990 and led to the Abitur in 1991 as a special class in the school according to the now nationally recognized proseminar curriculum.
