Kirk Elliott

Kirk Elliott (* in Toronto ) is a Canadian multi-instrumentalist and composer.

Elliott studied violin, ancient and electronic music at Queen's University in Kingston. On a scholarship from the Canada Council of Arts , he attended the National Choreographic Seminar at Simon Fraser University in 1985 . He also attended master classes for renaissance and baroque violin with Monica Huggett , Jean Lamon and David Douglas , for Scottish fiddle with Sandy McIntire and for lute and lute singing with Paul Odette and Julianne Bird .

During his time at Queen's University he formed the trio Short Turn . With this he appeared on radio and television and produced two albums, one of which was awarded a Juno Award . As a composer he wrote works for the National Ballet , the National Film Board , Discovery Channel , the Toronto Consort and the CBC .

For twenty-five years he toured Canada as a fiddle, mandolin, guitar, banjo, accordion, flute, harp, double bass, bagpipe, drums and trombone player with the Sharon , Lois and Bram 's Elephant Show the United States and has performed at Carnegie Hall , the Palace Theater on Broadway and Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.

He also worked as a multi-instrumentalist with the Ensemble Polaris and played historical instruments from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in the Toronto Consort . On his ten published CDs with musical partners such as Don Rooke , Erica Goodman , Carlos del Junco , Don Ross and Rebecca Campbell , Elliott mixes elements of medieval, renaissance and oriental music, classical, bluegrass and pop.
