Kirkham is a town in the county of Fylde in Lancashire , England , halfway between Blackpool and Preston (20 kilometers west of Preston).

The Dow Brook arises in the northeast of the city from the confluence of the Carr Brook flowing in the north of the city and the Spen Brook coming from the east and flows south in the east of the city.

The origin of the city is before Roman times. The name is composed of the Danish word kirk (church) and ham (Anglo-Saxon for settlement).

Kirkham is in an agricultural area. From the middle of the 18th century, canvas and flax products were made here. In 1876 there were factories employing a total of nearly 1,000 workers in cotton and other industries.

Kirkham station opened in 1844, four years after Preston. The two largest schools in the city are the "Carr Hill" and the "Kirkham Grammar".

Twin cities
