Ancenis ( Breton Ankiniz ) is a village and a former French commune with last 7,656 inhabitants (2016) in the department of Loire-Atlantique in the Region Pays de la Loire ; it belonged to the arrondissement of Châteaubriant-Ancenis and the canton of Ancenis .
With effect from January 1, 2019, the former municipalities of Ancenis and Saint-Géréon were merged to form the Commune nouvelle Ancenis-Saint-Géréon . The former municipalities were not granted the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . The administrative seat is in Ancenis.

The village is located on the right, northern bank of the Loire , halfway between Angers and Nantes .
Neighborhoods of Ancenis are: Oudon , Saint-Géréon , Couffé , Mésanger , La Roche-Blanche , Vair-sur-Loire in the Loire-Atlantique department, and Orée d'Anjou in the Maine-et-Loire department .
The place has a train station on the Tours – Saint-Nazaire railway line .
