After the groundbreaking ceremony on May 3, 2001, the KissSalis Therme was built by Mayor Christian Zoll until 2004 according to plans by the architects Kenéz + Jaeger, the engineering was carried out by Kersken + Kirchner GmbH Consulting Engineers VBI. The construction costs totaled 39 million euros.

The thermal bath was opened on February 28, 2004.

Since April 2009 there has also been a motorhome parking space directly at the thermal bath. In 2010 the SaunaPark was expanded to include a large infusion sauna as well as a new relaxation and lounge area. In July 2011 the KissSalis Bistro in the foyer was modernized.

The thermal bath is operated by KissSalis Betriebsgesellschaft mbH . Stadtwerke Bad Kissingen GmbH is the owner of the property .

The operating area is 7000 m².

Surname

The name goes back to the then Kissingen city councilor Johannes R. Köhler , who took the inscription on a historical porcelain owl as a basis: "In Aquis Kissingen salus", which translates as "Salvation is in the waters of Kissingen". The syllables used from this, Kiss (= Kissingen), sal (= salus) and is (= Aquis) result in the name KissSalis Therme.

architecture

The architecture is made up of three elements: on the one hand, it is based on the architecture of urban planning maxims, on the other hand, the topography is included. The indoor and outdoor areas and all attractions of the KissSalis Therme are kept in an organic style. The main focus is on the blurred line between inside and outside. The glass facade separates the two areas rather casually and is intended to act as a membrane. The roof pane represents the third element. Despite several changes to the roof pane during the construction phase, the three planning goals formulated from the beginning were retained: a small number of supports to ensure a suitable span, the change from open sky and closed hall roof and the connection to Kissinger building traditions by following the shape of the pillars on the mushroom pillars of the so-called Green Hall. The outdoor area is also kept in the style of the architectural concept. By modeling and arranging the plants, the transition into the open landscape is also made without limits.

The thermal water

The healing water of the KissSalis Therme comes from the so-called Schönbornsprudel and is characterized by a mineral concentration 12 times higher than the minimum requirements for healing wells. It can be described as a sodium chloride acid and according to the Mineral and Table Water Ordinance, it is to be assessed as originally pure.

Composition:

  • Sodium: 3,028 mg / l
  • Potassium: 112 mg / l
  • Magnesium: 198 mg / l
  • Calcium: 766 mg / l
  • Iron: 10.2 mg / l
  • Manganese: 1.25 mg / l
  • Chloride: 4,581 mg / l
  • Sulphate: 1,404 mg / l
  • Hydrogen carbonate: 1,842 mg / l
  • Nitrate: <1 mg / l
  • Fluoride: 0.44 mg / l
  • Carbonic acid: 1,760 mg / l

The brine

In the KissSalis Therme there are two different brine applications: brine inhalation and the brine intensive pool. The saturated brine for this does not come from the Schönbornsprudel in Bad Kissingen like the thermal water of the KissSalis Therme , but from Bleicherode am Harz. Since the brine has a saturation level of approx. 26 to 30 percent upon delivery, which is much too high for bathing, the brine is diluted with the bathing water of the thermal baths to an optimal concentration.

Awards

  • The KissSalis Therme Bad Kissingen was chosen as the hygiene champion of 21 Bavarian baths in the bath test by Antenne Bayern together with the Obermain-Therme in Bad Staffelstein . For the bath test, almost 150 samples were taken and evaluated in 21 Bavarian thermal baths and indoor swimming pools in January 2008.
  • In an online ranking by the travel portal Travelbook , the KissSalis Therme was voted the best thermal bath in Germany in January 2020.
