Kiss from a Rose is a song by British singer Seal that was first released in the UK in July 1994 as a single on Seal's second album Seal . It was released in the United States on June 6, 1995. The song is also featured on the soundtrack of the 1995 comic book adaptation of Batman Forever . At the 38th Grammy Awards in 1996 , the ballad was recognized in three categories as Record of the Year , Song of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance .

On August 26, 1995, Kiss from a Rose reached # 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. The song also reached number 1 on the Australian charts (ARIA) as well as the Adult Contemporary , US Adult Top 40 and Billboard Mainstream Top 40 in the USA. The best placement in Germany ( German single charts ) was eleventh, in Austria ( Ö3 Austria Top 40 ) third and in Switzerland ( Swiss charts ) seventh.

Seal sang the song live together with Mary J. Blige at a 1997 concert at Wembley Stadium .

Cover versions of the song exist by Straight No Chaser , 12 Stones , Becca Stevens , John Williams , Hank Marvin , Katherine Jenkins , The King's Singers and Northern Kings , among others .

The song is also part of the auditions in the 2016 animated film Sing .
