Katherine Jenkins , OBE (born June 29, 1980 in Neath , Wales ) is a Welsh mezzo-soprano .

Career

In 2004, at the age of 23, she signed the largest record deal in classical music in Great Britain to date , which comprised an unspecified seven-figure sum.

2005 Jenkins was the first time publicly before the rugby union game of the British and Irish Lions against Argentina in the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff the anthem The Power of Four before.

She appeared on the Berlin stage of Live 8 in 2005 with the title Amazing Grace . The first half was a vocal solo and the rest of the time it was supported by a single, discreetly played piano. At the Last Night of the Proms 2011 she performed with And This Is My Beloved from the musical Kismet .

In 2010 she took on a role in the Christmas special "A Christmas Carol" of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who .

In 2016, Jenkins was cast by the English National Opera for the musical Carousel , where she could be seen from April to May 2017. This led to some outraged reactions from opera fans.

In February 2020, Jenkins reached third place as Octopus in the final of the UK edition of The Masked Singer .

Prizes and awards

Jenkins album Second Nature was named Album of the Year at the Classical BRIT Awards on May 25, 2005. This award is given by the Classic FM listeners .

In 2014 she was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire .

family

Katherine Jenkins has been married to the American artist Andrew Levitas since 2014 and is the mother of a daughter born in 2015.
