Kisshōmaru Ueshiba

Kisshōmaru Ueshiba ( Japanese 植 芝 吉祥 丸 , Ueshiba Kisshōmaru ; born June 27, 1921 in Ayabe ; † January 4, 1999 ) was a Japanese Aikidō master and Dōshū of Aikikai .

He was the third son of Ueshiba Morihei , the founder of Aikidō , and his wife Ueshiba Hatsu. In the years 1936 to 1942 he learned Aikido from his father. He studied economics at Waseda University .

In 1942 he took over the Aikikai Honbu Dōjō in Tokyo from his father as acting Dōshū (Master of the Way) and director. After the death of Ueshiba Morihei, he also took over this function in Aikikai. As Dōshū he was the leading man of Aikido, who preserved his father's legacy worldwide in the Aikikai Association . He regularly gave courses in Aikido all over the world. His first trip abroad for this purpose was in 1964 to Europe and America. After his death, the office of Dōshū went to his son Moriteru Ueshiba .

On March 29, 1987, Kisshōmaru Ueshiba received the Japanese Medal of Honor on the Blue Ribbon for his work; 1992 honorary doctorate from the Polytechnic University of Valencia .
