The Kitchen Point (English; in Chile Punta Labbé ; in Argentina Punta Cocina from Spanish cocina , German 'Küche' , English kitchen ) is the eastern cape of Tirizis Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . The flat and rocky headland is 5.5 miles southwest of Nelson Island's Harmony Point . Before the ice sheets retreated at the beginning of the 21st century, it was assigned to Robert Island .
Scientists of the 1st Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946–1947) named them after Custodio Labbé Lippi († 1998), navigation officer of the transport ship Angamos on this research trip . Aerial photographs were taken between 1956 and 1957 during the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition . Since there was already a headland of the same name in Discovery Bay on Greenwich Island at that time , the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee changed the name in 1962. The new namesake is Captain Joseph Kitchen, skipper of the sealer Ann from Liverpool , who lived between 1821 and Operated in the waters around the South Shetland Islands in 1822.
