action

Akai is a Japanese police officer who recruits children to carry out contract killings. The victims are pedophiles and people who can be dangerous to him. The children are highly professional killers who brutally kill their victims with special weapons.

Akai has started a relationship with Sawa, a young girl who also works for him. The policeman murdered Sawa's parents, but she doesn't know. Since he promised to find the murderers, she accepted him as protector. Over time, however, she realizes that Akai must be the killer. Nevertheless, she stayed with him for lack of other caregivers.

During an assignment, Sawa meets the boy Oburi, who is also involved in the assignment. Since he has no family and probably the same fate as Sawa, the two grow closer.

Akai sees a danger to himself in this relationship and gives Sawa the order to kill Oburi. Instead, the young couple decides to kill Akai and his helper Kanie. The attempt fails, Oburi is now to be murdered by Kanie. Sawa is able to convince Akai of her loyalty and learns the place where this should happen.

The next day, Akai is surprised to find that it is not Oburi but his helper Kanie who is dead. He suspects that Oburi has outwitted his helper and seeks him out. To his surprise, Sawa waits for him, who kills him.

In the last scene in which Sawa is waiting for her boyfriend Oburi, another young girl shoots him. She uses one of the special weapons that Sawa also used.

The two approximately 30-minute episodes were cut together in other countries and released as a one-hour film. Kite was published in several countries, but mostly only in a very shortened version due to pornographic scenes.

The German version under the label OVA18 by OVA Films was published in 2000 by its exclusive distributor ACOG . This version consists of 55 minutes. Kite was shown on November 22nd, 2000 as part of the dctp program as Kite - A dangerous girl on VOX .

Remarks

  • The climax of the film is the assignment from Sawa to kill an American actor who is in the company of his twin brother and his two bodyguards. Sawa ambushes him in a toilet, in which there is a wild shooting. She can only get out of the situation by using highly explosive mini bombs. When she approaches a hole in the wall, the surviving bodyguard jumps at her and the two fall out of the skyscraper. During the fall, the two fight each other and then end up on a cart that is on an overpass. The car breaks down through the overpass and lands on a tanker truck, which in turn breaks through the ground into a subway station. An advertising sign that was subsequently detached from the wall of the high-rise building due to the damage fell on the tank truck and blew it up. Sawa is thrown into a house by the blast and lands gently on a bed.
  • The beginning of this scene, including the fall from the skyscraper, is reenacted in the music video Ex-Girlfriend of No Doubt , directed by Hype Williams .

criticism

“The plot is almost identical to Jean-Luc Besson's film“ Nikita ”, but“ Kite ”is an independent, well-made action thriller that seriously deals with the subject of violence. Yasuomi Umetsu pays a lot of care to a sophisticated, realistic drawing, also in the murder and some blunt erotic scenes. "
