life and work
The daughter of a psychologist grew up in rural Münsterland and took piano and violin lessons at an early age. She studied musicals in the singing and dance studio of the Theater an der Wien and at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen . But she didn't like the industrial-like production method of the musical business: "I don't want to be trained for a machine."
In 2005 she founded Kitty Hoff & Forêt-Noire . In the same year she received a recording studio grant from the Berlin Senate Administration and recorded her own compositions. With the demo CD and after a few concerts, she received a recording contract with the record major Virgin / EMI , on which the debut album Rauschen was released on September 23, 2005 . On February 23, 2007, the second album by Kitty Hoff and Forêt-Noire, Blick ins Tal , was released, which was again written and texted by her throughout.
In 2008 she switched to Blue Note Records , where her third album Heimat was released on April 24, 2009. The fourth album, Curio Stories (2010) presented, according to the subtitle of the album cover, "Interpretations of Robert Schumann's Children's Scenes". The album, released on Herzog Records , showed a mixture of classical and swing. In 2013 Herzog also released the album Argonautenfahrt under the sales brand “Edel Kultur / finetunes”.
