Kjeld Bonfils

Kjeld Bonfils (born August 23, 1918 in Copenhagen ; † October 12, 1984 in Frederiksberg ) was a Danish jazz musician (piano, vibraphone , vocals ).

Live and act

Bonfils played from 1940 in the formation All Danish Starnab , during the occupation with Svend Asmussen (1940-43) and Cecil Aagaard . He first recorded under his own name in Copenhagen in 1941 for Odeon; a series of 78s followed by 1944 such as Chinatown, My Chinatown , Sweet Georgia Brown and Silly Sally from Tin-Pan Alley as well as original compositions such as How Boogie How . Between 1943 and 1945 he was a member of Peter Rasmussen's Kvintet. He also worked with Thore Jederby , Leo Mathisen and Angelise Rune 's Swingkvartet. After the war he worked in Sweden with the Harlem Kiddies , but also with his own orchestra. In 1945 he recorded with a septet in Stockholm; Rolf Ericson , Sven Hedberg (tb), Stan Hasselgard , Sven Stiberg (g), Simon Brehm (b) and Pedro Biker (dr) played in the Kjeld Bonfils Orkester . In 1953 and 1957 he recorded other titles in Copenhagen (such as Cheek to Cheek and The Way You Look Tonight ), most recently with singer Freddy Albeck . In the field of jazz he was involved in 58 recording sessions between 1940 and 1957. His musical role models were Earl Hines , Billy Kyle , Art Tatum , James P. Johnson , Teddy Wilson and Fats Waller .
