The kkStB 176 was a freight train - Tender Locomotive series of Imperial Austrian State Railways kkStB whose locomotives originally for the Bohemian Western Railway were procured (BWB).

history

The BWB procured five of these quadruple coupled freight locomotives in 1881 (3 pieces) and 1888 (2 pieces) from the Wiener Neustädter Lokomotivfabrik . As is typical for Neustadt, the machines had an external frame and internal control. They were given the names "HERKULES", "NEPTUN", "VULCAN", "JUPITER" and "SATURN".

After the nationalization of the BWB in 1894 , the kkStB first designated the five locomotives as  76.15-19 , from 1905 as 176.15-19 .

After the First World War , the five locomotives of this series came to ČSD as the 403.1 series  , two of which were in service until 1947.
