Klaus-Dieter Baumann

Klaus-Dieter Baumann (born October 22, 1955 in Radebeul ) is a German linguist . As a university professor at the University of Leipzig , Philological Faculty, Institute for Applied Linguistics and Translatology (IALT), he teaches the fields of applied linguistics / specialist communication and East Slavic translation studies for the languages ​​and cultures of English , Russian and German .

Life

After studying English / Russian in Leipzig, Section Theoretical and Applied Linguistics from 1974 to 1978, he received his doctorate in 1981 with a dissertation on the subject of linguistic-stylistic investigations into English specialist texts in historiography . In 1986 he completed his habilitation with Lothar Hoffmann with the work An integrative approach to the analysis of specialist communication with special consideration of the communicating subject in selected specialist text types of the social sciences in English and Russian (published as Integrative Fachtextlinguistik , Tübingen 1992).

After visiting the Lomonossow University in Moscow, the Institute for Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and the Maurice Thorez Institute in Moscow, he was appointed to the Leipzig University in 1990, and in 1992 as Professor of New Law.

Baumann is a former student of Lothar Hoffmann (* 1928), the Leipzig nestor of specialist language research, and is recognized nationally and internationally in specialist communication research due to his research spectrum. He continues the Leipzig Technical Language School with publications and the promotion of young academics.

Baumann's research focuses on specialist communication research (including medicine , law , psychology , sociology ) as well as emotion research, translation studies , cognitive research and cultural studies .
