Hartwig Kalverkämper

Hartwig Kalverkämper (born May 4, 1949 in Essen ) is a German Romance studies specialist with a focus on linguistics (French, Spanish), applied linguistics (especially specialist communication research ) and translation studies as well as general and Romance cultural studies .

Live and act

After graduating from high school in 1968, Kalverkämper studied German , Romance studies and classical philology in Münster . His academic teachers included Wolfgang Rothe (Romance studies), Jost Trier (German studies), Otto Hiltbrunner (Latin studies), Heinrich Lausberg (ancient and modern rhetoric ). When Rothes was appointed to the University of Düsseldorf , he moved there as his doctoral student. After Rothe's sudden death (1974), Harald Weinrich took over the supervision of the dissertation in Bielefeld , whereupon Kalverkämper moved to Bielefeld University. He received his doctorate there in July 1976 with his dissertation Proper Names and Context , which was then published in 1978 as Text Linguistics of Proper Names by Klett-Cotta. He passed his doctorate in Romance Studies with summa cum laude .

In 1978, Kalverkämper became Wolfgang Raible's assistant at the University of Siegen , from which he also moved in connection with Raible's call to Freiburg im Breisgau . After working as an assistant, Kalverkämper completed his habilitation in Freiburg in February 1985 with the work of subjects and specialist texts between French Classical and Enlightenment (1650–1750) for the subject of Romance Philology.

After serving as professorships and visiting professorships in Germany and abroad ( Denmark , People's Republic of China ), he took over the professorship for German as a foreign language with the target group Latin America at the FernUniversität Hagen . There he developed a language course for foreign language self-learning by distance learning, which is aimed particularly at people from Latin America. In 1993 Kalverkämper was appointed to the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Kalverkämper has proven himself through research on onomastics , text linguistics , technical language research, rhetoric and cultural studies with an interdisciplinary format. He publishes series on the central topics of specialist communication research, translation studies, cultural studies and rhetoric. In around 160 essays, he has devoted himself to the various disciplines and their networking.

Kalverkämper lives in Berlin, is married and has five children.

Scientific honors and special features

  • Werner Heisenberg scholarship holder after completing his habilitation.
