Klaus-Jürgen Teutschbein

Klaus-Jürgen Teutschbein (born March 24, 1944 in Harz ), the son of a pharmacist, is a German church musician , choir director and from 1996 to 2009 professor of choral conducting at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar .

Live and act

Teutschbein was a member of the St. Thomas Choir of the St. Thomas School from 1955 to 1962 under the cantors Günther Ramin , Kurt Thomas and Erhard Mauersberger . He received his first choral conducting lessons from Kurt Thomas, who became a musical role model for Teutschbein. From 1962 to 1968 he studied church music in Dresden and Halle (Saale) . In 1965 Teutschbein passed his church music B examination in Dresden, after which he went to Halle / Saale, where he also passed the A examination in 1968. From 1968 to 1980 he worked as a chorister in the Leipzig Radio Choir , also held a position as a cantor in the Protestant parish “Am Gesundbrunnen” in Halle / Saale and directed the Favorite and Capell Choir Leipzig from 1978 to 1981. Herbert Kegel was the long-time director of the Leipzig Radio Choir (1920–1990) became Teutschbein's second musical role model due to his high level of faithfulness to the work and unconditional devotion to the music. Teutschbein's great fondness for choral symphonic works from the Romantic and Modern periods stems from this time.

From 1980 to 1996 Teutschbein worked as a church musician at Halberstadt Cathedral and from 1983 also headed the church music seminar in Halberstadt, from 1986 with the title of church music director. In 1991 he was awarded the culture prize of the city of Halberstadt. Teutschbein has been on the board of the "International Andreas Werckmeister Society" since 1991 and has been organizing the concerts of the annual " Westerburger Musiksommers " since 1993 .

From 1996 to 2009 Teutschbein was professor of choral conducting at the Liszt School of Music Weimar , where he has directed the Johann Sebastian Bach Ensemble ( www.bach-projekt.de ) since 1997 , with whom he often works on several concert projects per year with the Central German Chamber Orchestra. He is the father of the conductor Markus Teutschbein , b. 1971, who directs the Wuppertal Kurrende and the oboist Clemens Teutschbein, b. 1969. Teutschbein has been married to Ilke Teutschbein, a church musician from Leipzig, since 1968.
