Markus Teutschbein

Markus Vinzenz Teutschbein (born January 3, 1971 in Schkeuditz ) is a German conductor and choir director . Since 2017 he has been the musical director of the Wuppertal Kurrende .

Markus Teutschbein is the son of Klaus-Jürgen Teutschbein , Professor of Choral Conducting at the Liszt School of Music Weimar .

Teutschbein has been playing the recorder since 1975, as well as the piano and cello since 1977. He gained his first experience in a choir in the Michael Praetorius Choir and the Cathedral Choir in Halberstadt . In Rostock and Stuttgart Teutschbein completed a university degree in violoncello and chamber music (Melos Quartet). From 1996 he studied choral and orchestral conducting in Weimar with Gert Frischmuth , Jürgen Puschbeck , Gunter Kahlert and Nicolás Pasquet .

He then acted as a lecturer in choral conducting at the South Thuringian Choral Conducting Seminar and also directed the Weimar Music School Orchestra and the Gera Singakademie. From 1999 to 2007 Teutschbein took over the Suhl Boys Choir and the Suhl Singing Academy . Since 2005 he has been the choir director at the Meininger Theater . From February 2007 to November 2016, Teutschbein headed the Knabenkantorei Basel . Since 2010 he has led the Arlesheim Orchestra. He was one of the candidates for the new office of the Leipzig Thomaskantor, to be filled in 2016 .

He has been leading the Wuppertal Kurrende since June 2017 . At the 2018 Bundeschorwettbewerb in Freiburg he achieved 21 out of 25 possible points with the male choir of the Kurrende and thus the rating “participated with very good success”. In May 2019, under his musical direction, the Kurrende took part in an ARD television service , which was designed in honor of the 60th anniversary of Kindernothilfe .
