Klaus Bös

Klaus Bös (born April 5, 1948 ) is a German sports scientist who is known beyond German sports science primarily for his work on differential motor skills research, motor diagnostics, fitness research in the lifespan and health sports.

academic career

Klaus Bös studied sports, mathematics and psychology at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg from 1969 to 1974 . In 1975 he passed the 1st state examination in mathematics and sport with a thesis (together with U. Zoz) on the subject of "The correlation of cognitive and motor skills in students of different school types". Five years later he did his doctorate at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg with the thesis (together with H. Mechling) "Dimensions of Motor Skills" with Hermann Rieder . The work of Klaus Bös and Heinz Mechling was awarded first place in 1982 in the competition for the Carl Diem plaque , the science award of the German Olympic Sports Confederation . In the same year, Klaus Bös was appointed to the faculty and in 1986 to the senior lecturer. He also submitted his habilitation in 1986 with the subject of "Sports-specific problems in the assessment of motor skills" at the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg, was finally appointed private lecturer and received the venia legendi for the subject of sports science. A year later, Klaus Bös was appointed to the professorship (C3) for sports science with a focus on leisure and health sports at the Institute for Sports Science at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. In 1995 he was offered a professorship for sports science (C4) at the University of Regensburg as head of the institute for sports science. He turned down this offer and in 1998 finally accepted a professorship for Sport and Sport Science at the University of Karlsruhe (TH), which was also the head of the Institute for Sport and Sport Science. In 1999, Klaus Bös took up his position as head of the institute in Karlsruhe, took over the office of dean of studies in 2004 and the office of dean at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Karlsruhe (TH) in 2008 . Klaus Bös was head of the Institute for Sport and Sport Science until September 2012 and retired in 2013 . He has been a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since 2013.

Act

Klaus Bös is co-founder of the Health Commission in the German Association for Sports Science and has given numerous impulses in the development of motor test procedures in various fields of activity (health sports , talent, disabled sports, school sports, etc.). Central manuals on motor tests, motor development and health sports document its influence on German-language sports science. His books on the subject of walking , which have been translated into several languages, as well as his work on the relationship between motor performance and health have received particularly intense international attention . He has supervised more than 70 doctorates and 16 habilitations. Eight of these scientists (three) and scientists (five) have received calls for professorships in sports science (as of November 2017).

  • German Prevention Award 2007 from the Bertelsmann Foundation of the Federal Ministry of Health and the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) for the project “Health to Participate” (together with Alexander Woll and Susanne Tittlbach)
  • "Health" award 2004/2005 from the State Health Office of Baden-Württemberg for the project "Child Health in Karlsruhe" jointly sponsored by the City and University of Karlsruhe (together with Alexander Woll and Susanne Bappert)
  • German Prevention Award 2004 from the Bertelsmann Foundation, the Federal Ministry for Health and Social Security and the Federal Center for Health Education for the research project "Primary schools with a focus on physical education" (together with Alexander Woll).
