Klaus Bald

Klaus Bald (born February 16, 1936 in Hagen ; † March 25, 2018 ) was a German diplomat. He was ambassador to Niger (1983–1987) and Switzerland (1998–2001).

Life

After graduating from high school, Bald studied history , philosophy and law at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg . In 1956 he was reciprocated in the Corps Palatia-Guestphalia . After the two state exams, he joined the foreign service . Among other things, he was deputy spokesman for the Foreign Office in Bonn and at the embassy in Niger. In addition, he was permanent representative of the ambassador to Cyprus and Bangladesh and in 1987 ambassador to Niger. After assignments at the headquarters of the Foreign Office and at the embassies in Spain and Argentina , he became deputy head of the Foreign Office's cultural department. Most recently, Klaus Bald became ambassador to Switzerland in 1998, where he succeeded Lothar Wittmann . In 2001, Bald was retired and replaced as ambassador by Reinhard Hilger .
