Klaus Kleiter

Klaus Kleiter (born January 9, 1944 in Limburg an der Lahn ) is a former German hockey trainer and teacher . From 1974 to 1990 he was the national coach of the German men's national hockey team .

Kleiter joined the Limburg Hockey Club as a teenager in 1957 and studied teaching in Frankfurt am Main. In 1974, after having been an assistant coach for a few years, he became the German national hockey coach. At the men's field hockey world championship in 1975 and the 1986 world championship he was able to achieve bronze and silver in 1982 . He was also a silver medalist at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988. He ended his coaching post after a player revolt in October 1990 and, at 16 years of service, is the longest-serving national hockey coach to date.

After his coaching career, Kleiter taught sport and Latin at the Limburg Tilemann School as senior teacher from 1991 to 2009 . Kleiter lives in Limburg, is married and has three children. His daughter is the soprano Julia Kleiter .
