Klaus Lohmann (born March 17, 1936 in Witten ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

After elementary school and five years of high school , he went to mountain school and graduated as a mining engineer . This was followed by 13 years of underground work in the Ruhr mining industry . In 1955 he became a member of IG Bergbau und Energie . In 1976 he became chairman of the Ennepe-Ruhr district sports association and was later also president of KSV Witten 07 .

He has been a member of the SPD since 1954 and was managing director of the SPD in Witten and Bochum from 1966 to 1975 . Meanwhile he was from 1966 to 1969 chairman of the Young Socialists' association and from 1969 chairman of the local association in Annen -Hüllberg. From 1970 he was a member of the council of the city of Witten and from 1975 to 1984 a member of the district council of the Ennepe-Ruhr district , while 1975–1983 sub-district manager of the SPD. In 2004 Lohmann left the city council for reasons of age.

From 1978 to 1983 he was mayor of the city of Witten and then a member of the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency Bochum II - Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis II . From 1989 to 1999 he was again honorary mayor. After the new municipal code came into force, he was elected the first full-time mayor of the city of Witten in October 1999. For reasons of age, he retired early on March 31, 2004 from the service. Lohmann is widowed and has two children.

Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Mining Historic Sites in the Ruhr Area .

Klaus Lohmann was honored with the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class . In 2004 he received honorary citizenship of the city of Tczew for his special commitment to the Polish twin city.
