Klaus Marquardt (Manager)

Klaus Marquardt (born December 18, 1926 in Berlin ) is a former German business manager at Aral AG .

Life

Klaus Marquardt was born in Berlin as the son of Arno Marquardt, who holds a doctorate in law . He passed his Abitur at the Realgymnasium . He then studied economics at the Humboldt University until 1948 . In 1951 he received his doctorate from the Technical University of Berlin to Dr. rer. pole. In the same year he completed an internship in the Berlin branch of Carbon AG, the legal predecessor of what would later become Aral AG. In 1952 he was appointed to the economic department of the company headquarters in Bochum, and his ascent to the top of the company began.

In 1957 he became an authorized signatory in the goods supply and international business department. From 1959 he was a director concerned with fundamental issues of the group. In 1962 he joined the board of directors, initially only as a deputy member, and finally in 1966 as a permanent member with all powers, including the chairmanship from 1971 onwards . Aral AG was able to maintain its leading position in the domestic fuel market by reacting appropriately to the changing economic and social framework conditions ( energy saving , oil substitution ) in the form of rationalization measures . At the end of 1986, Marquardt had reached retirement age.

Klaus Marquardt, who in old age devoted himself to his passion for ancient art, was involved in various organizations and committees alongside or after his professional activity . He was chairman of the board of the Mineralölwirtschaftsverband and Westfalenbank AG , as well as a member of the general supervisory board of the Gerling group companies and a member of the administrative advisory board of Dresdner Bank AG . He was also a co-owner of the Intercountry Management Corporation in Meggen near Lucerne. He made great honorary services as chairman of the Society of Friends of the Ruhr University Bochum. In his honor, the university established the annual graduate award for outstanding academic theses of the social sciences faculty , the “Dr. Klaus Marquardt Prize”, which is awarded annually in the 1980s .
