politics

Political party

Klaus Peter Möller has been a member of the CDU since 1987 and is active there in several offices. Since 1999 he has been chairman of the CDU Giessen, as well as deputy district chairman and deputy district chairman of the CDU in Central Hesse.

In Gießen he has been a city councilor since 1993 and was the CDU's top candidate in local elections in 2001, 2006 and 2011. Since the local elections in 2001, in which the 16-year reign of red-green was voted out, he has been parliamentary group leader of the CDU in Giessen. Under his chairmanship, the CDU ruled from 2001 to 2006 in a so-called “civil coalition” with the FW and FDP. In 2006, under his chairmanship, the first “Jamaica coalition” (CDU, Bündnis90 / DieGrünen, FDP) came together in a larger Hessian city, which turned out to be more stable than expected by critics (including within its own ranks). After the local elections in 2016, a so-called "Kenya coalition" (SPD, CDU, Bündnis90 / DieGrünen) came together, with which the Giessen CDU and Möller once again embarked on a new path. As a city councilor, Möller has been a member of the building and transport committee, the social committee and finally from 2001 the main, finance and legal committee since 1993.

2011-2016 Möller was also a member of the district council. By accumulating, he was elected almost 20 places up on the CDU's original list proposal, so that he could win a place in the CDU's new district parliamentary group. In the district council, Möller was a member of the main and finance committee. From 2012 to 2016 Möller was deputy chairman of the district parliamentary group.

In 2013 Möller received the honorary title of City Elder of the University of Gießen and the “Silver Plaque of Honor” for his hometown for 20 years of voluntary work in local politics .

MP

From 2003 to 2009 Möller was a member of the Hessian state parliament. He was directly elected in his constituency 18 (Gießen I) in the state elections in 2003 and was consistently involved in the Interior Committee (INA) and Economic Committee (WVA) of the Hessian state parliament until 2008. From 2003 to 2006 Möller was a member of the Social Policy Committee (SPA) and from 2005 to 2008 the Committee for Environment and Consumer Protection (ULA). From 2005 to 2009 Möller was energy policy spokesman (economy) of the CDU parliamentary group. From 2008 Möller was also a member of the European Committee (EUA) of the Hessian state parliament.

Möller was one of the initiators of the Hessian “BID law” INGE to revitalize inner-city business districts and was honored with the 1st “Gießen Star Catcher” for its commitment to inner-city retail in 2009.

During his first parliamentary term, he successfully campaigned for state investments in university construction in Giessen (biomedical research center, children's heart center, technical college, clinic, etc.) and the East Sports Hall (venue of the LTi Gießen 46ers ).

For the state elections in Hesse in 2008 , Möller was re-elected as a candidate by the delegates from constituency 18. In the state elections on January 27, 2008 he was unable to defend his direct mandate, but entered the Hessian state parliament for another legislative period via the state list.

In the state elections in Hesse in 2009 , he again failed to win the constituency directly. Since the CDU only received direct mandates in 2009, no candidate could be elected via the state list and Möller left parliament after almost six years of membership.

From March 24, 2016, he was again a member of the Hessian state parliament until the end of the legislature in October 2018. He replaced the late Günter Schork . Möller was the spokesman for the CDU in the main committee of the Hessian state parliament. He was also a member of the Economic Committee (WVA) and was a member of the Cultural Policy Committee (KPA) and the Committee for Data Protection (UDS). In the state elections in 2018 he was a direct candidate for the CDU, but was again unable to win the direct candidate and did not enter the state list, so Möller lost his mandate in the Hessian state parliament.
