Klaus Poier

Klaus Poier (born July 4, 1969 ) is an Austrian political scientist and constitutional lawyer. He is assistant professor at the Institute for Public Law and Political Science at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz and since 1998 Secretary General of Club Alpbach Steiermark as well as chairman of the Dr. Karl Kummer Institute for Social Reform, Social and Economic Policy Styria.

Life

Poier completed his doctorate in law in 2000 with a thesis on minority-friendly majority voting. His main research interests are the development of democracy, electoral law and electoral systems, direct democracy and other issues at the interface between law and politics. Poier was a member of the Austria Convention for the Styrian Landtag from 2003 to 2005 . and is currently a member of the Enquete Commission to strengthen democracy in Austria . Together with Theo Öhlinger , he also wrote the book Direct Democracy and Parliamentarism for this study commission . published. On July 9, 2015, the Styrian state government appointed Poier to succeed Alois Sundl as a Styrian member of the ORF Board of Trustees . In 2011 he became head of the "Frank Stronach Research Group" set up by the politician and industrialist Frank Stronach at the University of Graz.

Since 1993 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KÖStV Babenberg Graz in the ÖCV
