Klaus Reßler (born February 16, 1942 ) is a former German football goalkeeper who was active between 1963 and 1975 for SC Turbine / FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

Until 1963, Klaus Reßler played as a goalkeeper in Arnstadt in the company sports community (BSG) unit, most recently in the third-class district league Erfurt . After the end of the 1962/63 season Reßler was delegated to the upper division SC Turbine Erfurt, where he was designated as the second goalkeeper behind Peter Bojara . Reßler represented him in nine league matches during the season. At the end of the season, the SC Turbine had to relegate to the GDR league , and there gave priority to coach Helmut Nordhaus Reßler, who with 23 appearances in 30 league games played an important role in the Erfurt's immediate resurgence. In his second league season 1965/66, in the course of which the football section of SC Turbine was converted into FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, Reßler, who was in goal in 23 of 26 league games, remained a regular player. Erfurt was only able to stay in the league for a year and played again in the GDR league in 1966/67. Again the return to the league succeeded immediately with Reßler as the goalkeeper. For the 1967/68 season, the national goalkeeper and footballer of the year 1965 Horst Weigang moved from 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig to FC Rot-Weiß. He replaced Klaus Reßler as number one in goal, who was only called up in three league games. In the shadow of Weigang, Reßler had no chances in the following seasons either. 1968/69 he was the goalkeeper of the GDR league team FC Rot-Weiß II, with whom he was relegated to the district league. Weigang ended his career in 1973 and was replaced by Wolfgang Benkert . Against him, Reßler could not prevail and remained second goalkeeper. In 1975/76 he played his last season at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt, in which he also played his last four league games. Overall, he had come to 65 league games and 96 GDR league games (48 of them with RWE II) in Erfurt. He then ended his footballing career with the TSG Ruhla district division .
