Klaus Schräpler

Klaus Schräpler (born August 20, 1934 ) is a former German soccer player who played for the BSG Wismut Gera in the GDR Oberliga and the GDR League from 1952 to 1965 .

Athletic career

In the 1952/53 season, the upper division Wismut Gera had to cope with the failure of several regular players. This gave 18-year-old Klaus Schräpler the chance to gain a foothold in the major league. In the 13th league game he made his debut in the encounter Wismut Gera - SV Vorwärts Leipzig (1: 2) when he came on for left defender Eberhard Neuber in the 75th minute . In the second half of the season Schräpler was used in ten other league games, in which he played mainly as a left winger. After being called up only in the 4th, 13th and 22nd game in the second-rate DDR-Liga in 1953/54, of which only once for 90 minutes, he succeeded in the season 1954/55 under new coach Herbert Melzer finally the Breakthrough. As a right runner , he played all 26 league games. His regular place defended over ten other seasons, in which he was missing only 29 times in a total of 255 games played in the GDR league. In the seasons between 1966 and 1963/64 he was also a regular scorer and scored nine goals. In the summer of 1965, Klaus Schräpler ended his career as a football player in the performance area at the age of 31 as one of the record players at BSG Wismut Gera.
