Klaus Thalhammer

Klaus Thalhammer (born March 22, 1943 in Baden near Vienna ; † September 22, 2003 ) was an Austrian lawyer and bank manager . From 1999 to 2003 he was General Director of Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft (ÖVAG) and from 2001 to 2003 Vice President of the Austrian Cooperative Association (ÖGV).

Life

Thalhammer graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Vienna. He was married and had three children.

Professional activity

Thalhammer joined the Girozentrale in 1968 , where he was responsible for accounting, controlling, savings bank business, law and taxes from 1984. As a specialist in special financing, he was the founding managing director of Immorent und Beteiligungsfinanzierungs-AG.

In 1987 he became a member of the board of directors of Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft, in 1992 its deputy general director and from May 1, 1999 until his death, he was its chairman and general director. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the Volksbank network in Eastern Europe from the beginning of the 1990s.

In the Austrian Volksbank sector he held numerous leading positions, including a. he was vice-president of the Austrian cooperative association, deputy chairman of the supervisory board of Victoria Volksbanken Versicherung AG, supervisory board chairman of the foreign subsidiaries of ÖVAG.

He was the chairman of the professional association of credit unions according to the Schulze-Delitzsch system in the Austrian Economic Chamber and deputy chairman of the banking and insurance division in the Lower Austria Chamber of Commerce .
