Klavdiya Ivanovna Shulchenko
Klavdiia Ivanovna Schulschenko ( Russian Клавдия Ивановна Шульженко ;. Scientific transliteration Klavdija Ivanovna Šulženko ; born March 11 . Jul / 24. March 1906 greg. In Kharkov , Russian Empire ; † 17th June 1984 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) was one of the most popular singers in the Soviet Union between the late 1930s and 1960s.
Schulschenko began her career in jazz and pop bands in the late 1920s . She came to fame in the late 1930s with her version of Sebastián de Yradier's La Paloma . In 1939 she won a national competition for Estrada singers.
During the Second World War , Shulchenko performed over a thousand concerts for Red Army soldiers in besieged Leningrad and many other places. The text of her famous pre-war song Blaues Tüchlein was adapted to the wartime. Another hit was her song about the Great Patriotic War , titled Let's One Smoke , which was later filmed by director Vladimir Menshov in his Oscar- winning film Moscow Believes In Tears . In 1945 Klavdiya Schulschenko was awarded the Order of the Red Star .
In 1971, Klavdiya Schulschenko received the title of People's Artist of the USSR . On April 10, 1976, she gave her most famous concert in the Column Hall of the House of Trade Unions (Moscow) .
