The Kleine Eiswerderbrücke is a steel truss bridge without an upper cross bracing in the Berlin districts of Hakenfelde and Haselhorst in the Spandau district over a branch of the Havel-Oder waterway east of the Havel island Eiswerder . It is entered in the list of cultural monuments in Berlin-Spandau with the object documentation no.09080560 .
history
The Small Eiswerder Bridge was built in 1892. From the east it connected the armament facilities on the island with the Prussian railway network. A powder factory, a gun foundry, an artillery workshop, a cartridge factory and an ammunition factory have been located on Eiswerder since the 19th century. The damage that could result from an explosion was estimated to be less on an isolated island. In 1892 Eiswerder received a direct connection to the railway via a 55 meter long bridge. Because of a possible explosion hazard, only steam storage locomotives drove in the factories . After the Second World War , the bridge was also opened to road traffic.
The island was also easy to reach by water and the raw materials could be transported there inexpensively, as could the sometimes heavy finished products.
Eiswerder is located in the Havel , north of the Spandau Citadel . Today the island is connected by two road bridges, one with the east bank and one with the west bank. The Great Eiswerder Bridge was built in 1901. It enabled access to the island from the west. From this side the armaments workers of the time could only reach the island with a small ferry.
