The Small Kiesau is a street of Lübeck .

location

The 150 meter long Kleine Kiesau is located in the Marien Quartier in the southwestern part of the old town island. It begins at the Großer Petersgrube , opposite the confluence of the Kolks and runs in a slight curve southwards. About halfway the Depenau branches off from Kleine Kiesau to the west in the direction of the Trave ; the road finally ends at its confluence with the Marlesgrube .

history

The Kleine Kiesau is first mentioned in 1443 as Kysow . The name literally means gravelly meadow and referred to a no longer existing brook with a gravel bed that led down from the Klingenberg to the Trave. 1852 as an official name, first Kiesau at St. Peter's determined to distinguish from the at that time only as Kiesau designated Great Kiesau the north of the old town. In 1884 the name that is used today was introduced.

The Kleine Kiesau was severely affected by the air raid in March 1942 . Most of the historical buildings were destroyed; only a few old buildings remained at the beginning of the street. Today the Kleine Kiesau is characterized by the unadorned backs of the Zentralbad swimming pool, two parking garages and a newly built hotel, all of which face other streets.
