In the miniature park "Kleiner Harz" in the Bürgerpark Wernigerode , detailed replicas of important buildings and attractions of the Harz region on a scale of 1:25 are exhibited on an area of 1.5  hectares . The miniatures park is part of the Bürgerpark, a 15-hectare landscape park with more than 60 themed gardens, numerous playgrounds, recreational areas and a pet enclosure.

idea

The aim of the Little Harz Mountains was to create an attractive tourist attraction that arouses interest in the region with its cultural assets and history and at the same time has an informative character. The miniature park shows models of palaces, castles, churches, various historical city buildings as well as important industrial buildings and excursion destinations in the Harz region, which should also encourage visitors to visit the original locations.

aims

The primary goal is to create jobs, e.g. B. in the areas of "maintenance of parks" and " repair and restoration " of buildings. Income that is generated by collecting entrance fees as well as through sponsors and sponsorships is used by the initiators for personnel and material costs as well as for the maintenance of the park. Another goal is to strengthen regional tourism and thus strengthen the region as a whole.

Workshop

With the beginning of March 2006 and after the opening of the miniature park in May 2009, more than 60 employees of the Oskar Kämmer School Wernigerode worked on the true-to-scale and detailed replicas of famous sights of the Harz region. The work steps listed below were necessary for this:

  • Compilation of all available construction drawings and documents for the selected structures
  • Measurement and documentation of the structures
  • Creation of a photo documentation of all details and the coloring
  • Creation of a complete set of drawings of the structures
  • Creation of assemblies and assembly of the models
  • Coloring and completion
  • Installation in the miniature park and adaptation of the natural planting

On this basis, more than 60 small-format 1:25 scale models were created. This scale is ideal for model making, as it is very easy to display special details. The miniatures are essentially made of a plastic material developed for model making. Aluminum, copper and brass were used for the manufacture of small parts such as gutters, weather vanes, railings and other decorations. The coloring was done with high quality paints and varnishes. All the models shown are unique and required a great deal of work. 68,000 working hours were necessary, for example, for Wernigerode Castle.

A digital show workshop provides information about the design process for the miniatures.
