description
The Little Irgis ( Russian Малый Иргиз , Maly Irgis ) is a river in southeastern European Russia and a left tributary of the Volga .
The Little Irgis rises not far from the southern border of the Samara Oblast . After around 5 km the river reaches the border with Saratov Oblast . Here it turns briefly to the south until, after the confluence of the Chernava, it flows again in a westerly direction through largely semi-arid steppe . After a total of 235 km, the Kleine Irgis flows into a bay of the Saratower reservoir .
The river is mostly frozen between November and April, while in spring much of the water comes from meltwater. The river has dried up over much of its course for up to 305 days. There is no large settlement along the entire course of the Little Irgis.
