The Große Mittager ( Italian Monte Catino ) is a 2422 m slm high mountain in the Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol ( Italy ).
Location and surroundings
The mountain is located in the southern part of the western ridge of the Sarntal Alps between the Hochplattspitze in the north-west and the ridge of the Tschögglberg in the south. To the east of the main summit are the Windspitz ( 2392 m slm ) and the Kleiner Mittager ( 2305 m slm ). There are summit crosses on the Großer Mittager and the Windspitz.
Administratively, the mountain is located in the municipality of Sarntal in South Tyrol.
Access
The mountain is located in the tourist area Merano 2000 , which can be easily reached from the valley via two cable cars from Merano and Avelengo . The area is fully developed by hiking trails. The mountain can be reached in around two hours from the mountain stations. The closest refuges are the Kesselberghütte ( 2300 m slm ) on the northwest flank and the Mittagerhütte ( 2260 m slm ) in the south. The Mittagerhütte can be reached via the Mittagersessellift, which can also be used by pedestrians (and is open all year round).
