The Hochplattspitze , also called the Vorderer Plattinger , is a 2615 m slm high mountain peak in the western ridge of the Sarntal Alps . It marks the border between the communities of Avelengo (in the southwest on the Tschögglberg ) and Sarntal (in the east in the Sarntal ).
topography
The Hochplattspitze is quite different on its flanks. To the south-west it slopes down to the Missensteiner Joch , as does the Plattkofel in Wiesen , and to the south to the “ Meran 2000 ” ski area and on to the expansive high plateau of the Tschögglberg. The west and east flanks of the summit are significantly steeper. The slopes here are not grassy, but consist of rubble and rock.
Towards the northeast, a ridge loosens that drops to the Sagbachtal , which later joins the Sarntal. The Hochplattspitze is connected to the Verdinser Plattenspitze via the north ridge . The Kratzberger See lies between the two ridges .
Naming
The naming of the summit is clearly understandable if you look at the Hochplattspitze from the south : this is where the eponymous “flat” slope is located.
geology
The Hochplattspitze is located in the Southern Alps , adjoining the Brixen quartz phyllite. However, like the nearby Ifinger, the majority of the summit consists mainly of tonalites . The reason for this rock composition is its proximity to the periadriatic seam .
