Small rosary to the baby Jesus

The Little Rosary for the Baby Jesus is an expanded form of the rosary prayer and the rosary. It goes back to a tradition from the year 1636 and looks at the secrets of divine childhood.

Margarita Parigot of the Most Holy Sacrament

Marguerite Parigot entered the Carmel of her hometown Beaune at the age of 12 . The nun Margaret of the Blessed Sacrament knew how to make the devotion to the Child Jesus a widespread popular devotion in France . From the first months of her novitiate , she saw herself chosen by Jesus Christ to especially venerate his childhood and his crib . She confided this to her novice mistress, Sister Maria Quatrebarbes of the Most Holy Trinity, with the words: “The baby Jesus keeps all my attention fixed on the period from his birth to his twelfth year; it's like a wall that I can't climb. "

After 1636 the Carmelite saw it as her vocation to found a community beyond the monastery called “Family of the Child Jesus”. The members of this community should sanctify every twenty-fifth of the month in memory of the Incarnation and birth of Jesus Christ through prayer and penance and also pray a special rosary, the Rosary of the Child Jesus . The secrets of the divine child should be considered, but above all the “housemates” in the “family of the child Jesus” should endeavor to imitate the humility, goodness, kindness and simplicity of heart of the child Jesus. The "family of the baby Jesus" spread very quickly in France and beyond. Sister Margaret of the Most Holy Sacrament died on May 26, 1648 in the Carmel in Beaune.

The rosary prayer

The rosary consists of a total of 15 pearls, divided into a group of three and a group of twelve. You pray in the following order:

  1. Three times: And the word became flesh. Our Father .
  2. Once: And the Word became flesh and lived among us .
  3. Twelve times: Ave Maria .
  4. Once: Glory to the father .

The three Our Fathers are in honor of the three persons of the Holy Family ; the twelve Ave Maria are intended to recall the twelve years of the Lord's childhood.

Contemplation of the childhood of Jesus

The Discalced Carmelite Margaret of the Blessed Sacrament recommended that while praying the twelve Ave Maria, consider the following secrets of Jesus' childhood:

  1. The Incarnation
  2. The nine months in the mother's womb
  3. The birth of christ
  4. The adoration of angels and shepherds
  5. Circumcision of the lord
  6. The Adoration of the Magi
  7. The Presentation in the Temple
  8. The Flight into Egypt
  9. His return from Egypt
  10. The hidden life in Nazareth
  11. The pilgrimages with Mary and Joseph
  12. His stay in the temple among the scribes
