Ferdinand Holböck (born July 13, 1913 in Schwanenstadt , Upper Austria ; † October 13, 2002 in Salzburg ) was a Catholic priest and theologian .

Life

Ferdinand Holböck visited in 1924 the Archbishop's School Borromäum in Salzburg, where he with distinction in 1932 Matura finished. He then entered the seminary and studied at the Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum in Rome , where he received his licentiate in philosophy magna cum laude on July 10, 1935 . On October 30, 1938, he was ordained a priest in the church of the Germanicum and primed in Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome before the German-speaking community.

After the " Anschluss of Austria " in 1938, he was refused entry to his homeland until 1941.

In 1940 he received his doctorate in theology summa cum laude from Sebastian Tromp . In 1941 Holböck came to Neumarkt am Wallersee as a chaplain , later as a cooperator to Zell am Ziller ( Tyrol ) and then as a pastor to Golling and Bad Hofgastein . After his appointment as a religion teacher on September 15, 1945, Holböck worked for a few years at the Federal Teachers Training Institute in Salzburg. In 1946 Holböck completed his habilitation with a thesis on “The Decretum 'Firmiter' of the IV Lateran Council in the light of the doctrine of the Angels of Early Scholasticism” in dogmatics . He then worked as a university lecturer at the theological faculty of the University of Salzburg . In 1948 he was appointed associate professor and in 1956 full professor for dogmatics. Holböck replaced the dogmatist Matthias Premm . From 1964 to 1965 he served as dean of the faculty. Until his retirement in 1983, Holböck taught in Salzburg and from 1984 to 1988 lectured dogmatics in Heiligenkreuz (Lower Austria) .

In addition to his teaching activities, Holböck was always active in pastoral care . From 1961 to 1964 he was also the rain of the seminary . From 1973 to 1988 Holböck was also a member of the Salzburg Cathedral Chapter .

For many years he was President of the Marian Congregation for Men. He was also the editor of the Österreichischer Klerusblatt for over two decades . Holböck published many books and made great efforts to promote the veneration of saints, especially the new saints. Many hagiographic works come from him. As a great admirer of Mary, he especially venerated Our Lady of Fatima . Holböck accompanied the community of St. Joseph in its founding years and was an advisor to the magazine "Der 13th".

At the age of 90 he died as a result of an accident and was buried in the canon crypt in the Petersfriedhof Salzburg (crypt XXXI).
