The dwarf feltwort ( Filago minima (Sm.) Pers .; Syn: Logfia minima (Sm.) Dumort. ), Also called small feltweed , is a graceful species of plant in the Asteraceae family.

Habitus

description

It is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 5 to 20 cm and is usually branched from the bottom (in contrast to the very similar felt herb , Filago arvensis ). The entire plant is silky gray-tomentose. The linear foliage leaves are no longer than 10 mm and only 0.5 to 1.2 mm wide.

The main stem ends in a ball of three to seven cup-shaped inflorescences. The tiny flower heads are only about 3 mm in size. The broad skin-margined bracts are felty only in the lower half.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Occurrence, hazard

The dwarf feltwort is widespread in Europe from northern Spain to western Russia and inhabits dry and semi- arid grasslands . In addition, it can be found in short-lived, ruderal arable and weed corridors, whereby it prefers slightly acidic, dry, but above all low-nitrogen, sandy, base-poor, humus and fine earth poor, sandy and gravel soils. Since such areas are becoming increasingly rare in the intensely cultivated cultural landscape of Central Europe, the dwarf felt herb is locally and regionally endangered; in Germany it is on the red list for warning. The plant benefits from the fallowing sandy arable sites; conversely, intensive use of previously set-aside areas - for example for the cultivation of renewable raw materials - causes stocks to be pushed back. The dwarf feltwort is a character species of the Thero-Airion association in Central Europe and also occurs in societies of the Corynephorion association, but is a species of the Helianthemion guttati association in southern Europe.
