Klemens Stock

Klemens Stock SJ (born May 12, 1934 in Hofen ) is a Roman Catholic theologian ( New Testament scholar ) and a member of the Jesuit order . From 2002 to 2014 he was secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission .

Life

Klemens Stock attended the Peutinger Gymnasium in Ellwangen from 1946 to 1953 . After graduating from high school, on April 21, 1953, he entered the novitiate of the Society of Jesus in Neuhausen auf den Fildern . He completed his philosophical and theological studies until 1965 in Feldkirch , at the universities of the Jesuits in Pullach and Frankfurt-Sankt Georgen . On 31 July 1964 he received in Munich the priesthood , his final vows he put on 15 September 1970 in Mannheim from.

From 1967 Klemens Stock studied Biblical Exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome , where he received his doctorate in 1974 . He then taught until 2009 as professor of New Testament exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute, where he was rector of the Biblical Faculty from 1988 to 1990. From 1978 to 1987 he also taught at the theological faculty of the University of Innsbruck . From 1990 to 1996 he was the rector of the Biblical Institute and from 2002 to 2014 he was secretary of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. His main research interests were the Gospels and the figure of Jesus Christ in the New Testament .

In retirement, Stock has lived in the Jesuit community at St. Michael in Munich since 2015 .
