Dominik Burkard (born December 22, 1967 in Rottweil ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

From 1987 to 1992 he studied Catholic theology in Tübingen and Freiburg (1993 promotion to Lic. Theol. ( University of Tübingen ) / 1998 Promotion to Doctor of Divinity. ( PTH Sankt Georgen )). From 1996 to 2000 he was a research assistant at the Goethe University , since 1999 in the DFG Research College “Knowledge Culture and Social Change”, sub-project “Roman Inquisition, Index Congregation and Imprimatur in Modern Times” with Hubert Wolf . From 2000 to 2003 he was a research assistant at the University of Münster , DFG long-term project "Roman Inquisition and Index Congregation". After his habilitation in 2002 in the subject of Middle and Modern Church History in Münster , he became a member of the boarding school in 2002. Scientific commission for the evaluation of the Alois Hudal estate in the Pontifical Institute Santa Maria dell'Anima . From 2007 to 2011 he was Deputy Director (Vice Dean) of the Graduate School of Humanities. Since 2007 he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Catholic Academy in Bavaria . From 2010 to 2016 he was ombudsman at the University of Würzburg for the humanities and social sciences. Since 2011 he has been a liaison professor at the German Business Foundation . Since 2013 he has been a member of the Senate and the University Council of the University of Würzburg. He has been a second member of the Philosophical Faculty since 2014. Since 2015 he has been a member of the board of directors of the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart (Deputy Chair) and co-editor of the Rottenburg Yearbook for Church History . He has been a member of the Commission for Contemporary History since 2017 .

His main research interests are the history of science and universities, the Roman Inquisition and Index Congregation, the relationship between state and church, ecclesiastical constitutional history, Catholic Enlightenment, Catholicism in the 19th and 20th centuries, and Church / Theology under National Socialism.
