Karl Hermann Schelkle

Karl Hermann Schelkle (born April 3, 1908 in Steinhausen an der Rottum , † March 9, 1988 in Tübingen ) was a German Catholic theologian (New Testament scholar).

Life

Karl Hermann Schelkle studied at the University of Tübingen . After the theological exam in 1931, he graduated from the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1932. In 1933 he was released to continue studying classical philology and religious studies in Tübingen. After graduating as Dr. phil. in Tübingen in 1935 with Otto Weinreich and the state examination in 1936 he was not allowed to do his legal clerkship. In 1936/37 he received a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . He then worked as a pastor in Ehingen, from 1940 to 1945 as a pastor in Wachendorf near Rottenburg. In 1941 he was at Heinrich Joseph Vogels at the University of Bonn to Dr. theol. PhD. In 1949 he completed his habilitation at the University of Würzburg in 1949 with Karl Staab . From 1950 until his retirement in 1976 he held the chair for New Testament theology in Tübingen.

In 1976 he received the title of “papal house prelate” and in 1985 the Federal Cross of Merit .
