Lauren Michelle Jauregui Morgado (born June 27, 1996 in Miami , Florida ) is an American singer . She is a member of the music group Fifth Harmony and has also been under contract as a solo artist with the record label Columbia Records since 2017 .

Life

Jauregui was born in Miami to Michael Jauregui and Clara Morgado . She is of Cuban descent and has two younger siblings.

Already during her school days Jauregui was active as an artist and defined herself by singing, dancing, choreographing, playing the piano, writing songs and drawing. Since her time at Fifth Harmony , Jauregui has used her platform to raise awareness on political issues such as human rights , immigration , education and other social issues. In 2017, she wrote an open letter to US President Donald Trump in which she criticized the Muslim Ban and described him as “disrespectful to humanity”. As early as November 2016, the music magazine Billboard published a public letter from Jaureguis to Trump voters, in which she a. confessed to her bisexuality .

From 2017 to 2019 Jauregui was in a relationship with the US rapper Ty Dolla Sign .

Career

The X Factor and Fifth Harmony

Jauregui took part in the auditions of The X Factor with the song If I Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys . After the second round of bootcamping, she left as a solo singer. She was then brought together with Normani Kordei Hamilton , Ally Brooke Hernandez , Dinah Jane Hansen and Camila Cabello in the girl group Fifth Harmony , which reached the finals and took third place there.

In January 2013, Fifth Harmony signed a recording deal with Syco Music and Epic Records . In the same year the first EP followed , Better Together , which made it into the top 5 on the Billboard charts .

The debut album Reflection was released in January 2015. With the title Worth It , the group scored their first top 20 single, which helped them to their international breakthrough.

The second album, 7/27 , was released in May 2016. With the title Work From Home , Fifth Harmony landed their first top 10 single in the Billboard charts and at the same time the first single by a girl group in eight years to make it into the top Made 10 of the charts.

The third album, Fifth Harmony , was finally released on August 25, 2017 . This was the group's first album after Camila Cabello left the band in December 2016. The album placed in the top 5 on the Billboard charts.

In March 2018, the remaining members of Fifth Harmony announced an indefinite hiatus to focus on their solo careers.

Solo career

Even before the band break, Jauregui was also active as a solo singer. In December 2016 she released the song Back To Me together with Marian Hill . At the end of 2016 she was named "Sexiest Woman" of the year by the creators of the website AfterEllen in their top 100 list. In May 2017 she was named "Celebrity of the Year" at the British LGBT Awards .

Jauregui was also heard in Halsey's song Strangers . This made it into the Billboard Hot 100 and was her first chart placement as a solo artist. In Your Phone appeared in October 2017 with Ty Dolla Sign . The song All Night , which Jauregui recorded together with the American electro house DJ and music producer Steve Aoki , was released on November 17, 2017 and reached the top 10 on the Billboard Dance / Electronic Song Charts .

In May 2018, Jauregui announced that she was working on her debut album. From June to August 2018 she was the opening act for Halsey's "Hopeless Fountain Kingdom Tour". She released her debut solo single Expectations on October 24, 2018 under Columbia Records.

Her second solo single, More Than That , was released in January 2019. On December 4, 2019, she was with Drew Love on Clear Eyes' debut solo song Let Me Know . For the soundtrack of the film Birds of Prey: The Emancipation of Harley Quinn , which was released on February 7, 2020, she recorded the song Invisible Chains . In the same month she released the song Nada featuring C. Tangana with Puerto Rican producer Tainy . Jauregui's next song, Lento , was released on March 20, 2020. Most recently, she released the track 50ft on April 17, 2020 .
